With less than 1% of the US population in the armed forces, A Different 1% presents artworks, workshops, and screenings by eight artist-veterans who create bridges for, and to, a public that’s increasingly disconnected from the consequences of war: Drew Cameron/Combat Paper, Thomas Dang, Amber Hoy, Aaron Hughes, Ash Kyrie, Mark Pinto, Folleh Shar Tamba, and Ehren Tool.

Curated by incoming Cypress College Gallery Director Janet Owen Driggs, the exhibition is particularly significant at Cypress College, where more than 600 student veterans attend classes, a number that has continually risen since fall 2009, and where ground will shortly be broken on a new Veterans Resource Center. In addition to exhibiting sculpture, prints, photographs, drawings, ceramics, and video installations, the Cypress College Art Gallery hosts related events throughout the run of the exhibition.
